Excellence. Exposure. Community. Empathy. Leadership.
What is NSBE?
NSBE is one of the largest student-run organizations, having reach within the U.S., Canada, and Ghana. Although its 20,000 active students and 790 chapters serve different local communities and set separate agendas, they are all united in on common mission: “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers that excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.”
Our Objectives
We aim to stimulate and develop student interest in the various engineering disciplines,
increase the number of minority students at the undergraduate and graduate level,
promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for Black and minority students in engineering, and
function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black Engineers.
We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, a world in which all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. Painfully, in this world, Black students face inequities entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally. It’s our mission to bridge those divides, and to provide our community with the opportunities they deserve.
